What is xmelee?

xmelee is an xbox peer-to-peer tunneling project. It enables lan games (system link) to be played over the internet. The packetization is highly optimized which permits the lowest lag possible when extending game play over the internet.

The win32 client captures and replays xbox lan traffic over p2p tunnels between the various players. Users login and host/join games on a public or private game server.

The optional gserver alows you to setup a private game server on a large internal lan such as a university campus, or publicly accessible on the internet. The IP address of the gserver can be reconfigured in the xmelee client in order to connect to your private server. This can be set up on a completely private lan without requiring an external internet connection. Playing xbox games on a campus where it is was dissallowed, will now be possible since the xbox packets are tunnelled into standard UDP packets.

Configuration

xmelee client - Public Server Setting

Since the initial release, the public game server has changed IP addresses. In order to register, login, host and join games, the default game server configuration must be changed to "xmelee.com"

xmelee client - Firewall and NAT

The xmelee client relies on TCP/UDP port 7701 to be forwarded to the appropriate PC.

xmelee gserver (optional) - Firewall and NAT

If you wish to setup a private gserver, TCP/UDP port 7702 must be forwarded to the appropriate PC.
